Pelton Park – the great escape
Pelton Park is a vacationer’s paradise where you can
boat, camp, fish, view wildlife and just relax.
Located on the shore of Lake Simtustus, the
reservoir behind Pelton Dam, this park has:
- 71 campsites
- Restrooms and showers
- A picnic area
- A boat launch and moorage
The park store offers groceries, ice, fishing
tackle, boat rental and fuel. The lake has a small
water skiing area, but most of the lake has a speed
limit of 10 miles per hour and is ideal for fishing,
canoeing and kayaking.
For people with disabilities, the park has
accessible restrooms and campsites.
At the Pelton Wildlife Overlook, located just north
of Pelton Park, you can view ducks, geese, great
blue herons, shorebirds, eagles and other raptors.
Short trails lead to viewing platforms overlooking
the Pelton Reregulating Reservoir.
Directions: On Highway 26 approximately two
miles south of Warm Springs, look for the access
road. Follow the sign for Lake Simtustus. |

Hello, my name is Dan MacNeil and I designed this
website for the great folks at Lake Simtustus. There are 3
campgrounds at Lake Simtustus. Lake Simtustus Campground
is a little further up the hill from Pelton Park
Campground and Indian Park Campground is on the other side
of the lake (about half the way up the lake) and is quite
primitive and roads in and out are dirt and slippery when
wet. I got stuck there once and could not get out 'til the
roads dried up. My wife doesn't believe that but it's
true!
Pelton Park Campground is popular because it is close
to the water skiing area and on one side of the campground
there is skiing and on the other side there is a 10 MPH
speed limit for better fishing and relaxation. Pelton Park
also has a roped off area for swimming and a beach access.
The boat ramp is huge, very wide and great for launching
even the largest boats. Many of the sites are right on the
water and all have fantastic views. The park features a
fully stocked store where you can pickup all kinds of
snacks & goodies plus a HUGE selection of fishing tackle
and bait. They have photos of fish that are caught and can
they can tell you how they were caught so you will get the
latest Kokanee and trout fishing lures plus tips on where
to fish and how to land the trophies that are caught on
one of the most popular lakes in Central Oregon. Abby's
concessions runs the store, restaurant, boat rentals, boat
moorage and the marina and PGE runs the campground. Abby's
concessions does not have any email hookup at the store
yet but you can phone them at 541-475-0516. If you have
any questions of a general sort, I fish at Lake Simtustus
a lot so feel free to email me. I designed the websites
for both campgrounds and have also stayed at the Indian
Park campground so I may be able to give you info about
all of them as well as some fishing info. |
